Vital behaviours staff and families open day at Waihi
Waihi held an open day for staff and their families in early May. The Vital Behaviours Staff & Families Open Day was designed to allow staff and contractors who work on site to show their partner and family where they work and how they stay safe.
Over 600 people visited the site during the day. While there, they got the opportunity to go underground, look inside the mill, take a ride in a dump truck and watch an underground loader operated by remote control.
There were bouncy castles, balloons and face painting for the children, but there was also a serious side to the day too. Each family was given a fire extinguisher to take home, and provided with the opportunity to try their hand at putting out a simulated kitchen fire. All of the children were also given a Vital Behaviours hi viz T shirt.
One activity carried over from the last staff open day was the ‘hands up for safety’ hand prints. This year, staff and their families left their hand prints of boards which will be displayed in their work area. This means that as staff go on shift they will see the handprints of their family, and will be reminded that there are some really important reasons why they should arrive home safe and well after work.
