PDAC 2017 - Where the world’s mineral & finance industry meets
OceanaGold participated for the fifth year on the Prospectors & Developers Association of Canada - PDAC - conference, one or the largest mining events in the world, hosted annually in Toronto in early March, for 4 days. The PDAC’s mission is to promote a globally responsible, vibrant and sustainable minerals industry.
The conference attracted over 900 exhibitors and 22,000 attendees from 125 countries, including prospectors, exploration, development, producing companies, investors, primarily of precious metals, industry suppliers and government from many countries around the world, including Australia and New Zealand. The event agenda included corporate presentations, commodities outlook, technical forums, including advancements in exploration, land access for mineral development, corporate social responsibility, aboriginal affairs and access to capital. Governments representatives, including minister of mines and environmental departments, hosted debates about their respective mining industry, with a focus to continue to attract more investment in the sector.

OceanaGold PDAC’s booth was supported by our colleagues Bill Gehlen, Darren Klinck, Ericka Colindres, Marcelo Ramos and Mark Cadzow. This team interacted with parties seeking further information about the company and the different locations where it operates. In many occasions people were seeking an opportunity for business either by offering a service, looking for a job opportunity or considering some form of partnership. People were also seeking advice to their projects, like community relationship. Some industry colleagues came just to inform us that they know well many of the OceanaGold team members (it is interesting to realise how immense is our network in the sector).
We also sponsored the PDAC Awards event, where individuals and companies are acknowledged for their outstanding achievements and contributions to the Canadian mineral industry.
PDAC is an important event to us: (i) to promote our brand and how we operate our business (ii) to attract service providers and potential new talents, (iii) to exchange and capture knowledge in the industry that can be further shared within our business, (iv) to identify growth opportunities that could fit our strategy, (v) to extend our network for future business opportunities.
After being an exhibitor for 5 years, we see the evolution of recognition of our brand. It obviously reflects the work that is done at each business unit and our growth. Haile operation and our very competitive cost position in the sector were the dominant themes at our booth.
We will continue our presence at PDAC in future years.
