Going the Extra Mile: OGPI Running for a Cause
OceanaGold Philippines and UP Geological Society of the Philippines, a university-based organization, teamed up for the “Run for Responsible Mining” event in April 2017.
The fun run was held at the University of the Philippines in Diliman, Quezon City, and was a demonstration of the Company’s commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility by means of helping and promoting responsible mining awareness within the Philippines while also extending assistance to those who need it most in society. |
The proceeds of the event were donated to OceanaGold’s Rugby Team from the Haven for Children Foundation. The event featured four categories (2.2 Km, 4.4 Km and 8.8 Km) and was attended by approximately 1,000 participants. |
OceanaGold Employees from the Makati National Office also participated in the 2.2 Km and 4.4 Km Categories.
After the run was over the fun continued as all participants enjoyed OceanaGold’s photo wall and games that were put on relating to responsible mining practices. The company also distributed loot bags containing brochures and tokens as prizes.
After the fun filled activities, runners also signed a manifesto of support which promoted the advocacy for the implementation of responsible mining in the Philippines and to continuously help spread awareness of the discipline of proper mining for the betterment of the society and the environment. At the end of the day, the fun run became more than just a race for everyone, it became causes and incentives to do our best for others.
