The 2017 Firefighter Sky Tower Stair Challenge held on Saturday, 13th May in Auckland raised $1.25 million for Leukaemia & Blood Cancer New Zealand. Our Macraes OceanaGold ERT team raised a record breaking $20,100. Fantastic effort by the guys participating, and the suppliers/contractors, staff and families who donated. The quiz night held late April raised $4,000; brilliant night for all teams participating. Individual fundraiser was remarkable also with Michael McDonald raising just over $3,000. The team certainly got their climb on, with 51 flights of stairs, 1,103 individual steps taken to ascend 328 metres whilst carrying 25kg of kit, along with 609 other fellow firefighters. The number 11 seemed to be the chosen number for the day, the team’s quick step work had them come in 11th from the 170 teams entered. Plus, with the team’s three fastest times combined, bronze medals were handed out to Andy, Andrew and Greg. Andy also received a gold, first in the Masters category and 11th overall, within an amazing effort of 11 minutes 05 seconds. Another fine performer within the Grand Masters category was Paul Remon, coming in fifth with a time of 14 minutes 11 seconds. Superb times for all concerned, new personal bests and exceptional teamwork shown - one for the wall of remembrance eh lads! |
