Jeremy Smith, from our Macraes Operation, is the prestigious winner of the "Name the Employee Newsletter" Competition. So we thought we'd get to know the Underground Truck Driver a little bit better.
Jeremy has racked up nine years with OceanaGold in various departments at our Macraes Operation. A Process Plant storeman/snr storeman and a Buyer at Frasers Underground. He loved the buyer role, but with advancement being sparse to non-existent Jeremy decided the opportunities and extra $$ driving underground trucks was the green light for him. Mick you’d better watch out as Jeremy also understands that he’ll get a Lamborghini when he hits the ten-year service mark? So he’d like a green one, please Mick? |
If you had the opportunity, what historical figure would you invite to dinner?
I don't know his/her name, but the Egyptian pyramid architect. “How'd you do it?” What should every man try at least once in his life? Read a book, write a poem, draw a picture, make furniture, landscape your yard, go exploring, sing "My Way" and mean it (you can choose which version suits - Sinatra, Elvis or Sid Vicious). What’s on your book shelf at the moment? Mostly Sci Fi, hidden behind a pile of books I have not had the time to read as yet. What is the one thing people would be surprised to know about you? I like silence. At home, I'm quiet...mostly...sometimes. |
What is your beauty secret?
Au Naturale is best. If I had a dollar for every time someone told me to dye my hair to hide my grey, I could probably afford the hair dye. What is the best advice you’ve been given? Babies just cry. Our first child was frustrating because she would not stop crying at times. As a typical male, I was thinking "You're fed, watered, changed and rested. What are we missing?" Stress ensued of course. Then my mother-in-law said in passing, "That's what babies do, they just cry". From that moment on, if all the above was taken care of, I just pictured Alice’s crying as her way of telling the world "Watch out, here I come!" We all settled down nicely after that. Finally, would you buy shares in a hedgehog milking company? Definitely. If the hedgehogs were genetically engineered to be the size of VW's to increase milk production. As a side business, you could grow your own picket fence. |
